Connecting the Swan and the Elephant
This book is about promising collaborative avenues for connecting Finland and India with value propositions for enterprises, consumers and investors worldwide. The book covers institutional and cultural differences and explains the logic of business systems, entry modes, and managerial styles in both countries. It draws on experience of successes and also failures to know what should be done differently. Dr. Ajeet N. Mathur is a professor of Strategy and International Business, Business Policy and Economics Areas at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. He is also the chairperson of the Centre for Gender Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity (GEDI). His interests are at the crossroads of economics, human behaviour in groups, law, strategic management of organisational knowledge and international business. These are reflected in his multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary work with corporations and as an expert in change management, institutional design and missing markets with the ILO, WHO, ADB and the European Commission. His research particularly focuses on pervasive uncertainty and systemic risks; how motives and powerbases combine in group relations and the unconscious dynamics of large groups; bridging strategy with organization development; the dynamic co-evolution of capabilities; politics of disharmony in the management of gender differences; why missing markets remain; market barriers; and the management of institutional diversity in cross-border value chains.
Before joining IIM Ahmedabad, he served as a founding professor of International Business, University of Tampere, Finland, EU-TEMPUS Professor of European Integration and Internationalization, and as IFCI Chair Professor, Indian Council of Research on International Economic Relations. He has held visiting academic appointments at K.U. Leuven, Belgium, University of Edinburgh, Cornell University, University of California at Berkeley, University of Bielefeld, Germany, Helsinki School of Economics, Aalto University, Turku School of Economics, Royal University of Bhutan, and Fresenius University, Cologne. His publications include 28 books and over 150 papers in scientific journals and anthologies. He is one of the authors of the International Encyclopedia of Laws.
