Prof. Dr. Miroslawa Buchholtz, Torun, Poland

Professor of English at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Poland, where she teaches American literature and film adaptations of literature and biography. A graduate of Brandeis University (MA, PhD), she has published some 100 articles, essays and reviews, six books, including Henry James and the Art of Auto/biography (2014) and 21 edited volumes, including Henry James’ Travel: Fiction and Non-Fiction (2019). She contributed a chapter on The Old Man and the Sea to the volume on Ernest Hemingway, published in the “Masters of American Literature” series of Warsaw University Press in 2017. She is former President of the Henry James Society (2017) and a member of the Polish Accreditation Committee (agency for quality assurance in higher education) – since 2012 (third term). Dr. Dorota Guttfeld, Torun, Poland

Born in Torun in 1979, she received her MA in English at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in 2003, and her PhD in 2007, with a work on “English-Polish translations of science fiction and fantasy: preferences and constraints in the rendering of cultural items,” supervised by Professor Miroslawa Buchholtz. She went on to become Assistant Professor at the Department of English (since 2019: the Department of American Literature and Literary Translation, Faculty of Humanities) at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, where she has taught courses in academic writing, American literature, science fiction and fantasy, analysis of literary texts for translators, translation studies, stylistics, literary translation, audiovisual translation, non-literary translation and localization. Since 2008 she has headed the Department's extramural MA studies program. Her research interests are centered on cultural elements in literary and audiovisual translation, the reception and translation of speculative fiction, modern translators’ workshop and competences, and the didactics of audiovisual and literary translation. She has cooperated with Torun’s University of the Third Age as a teacher of English and been engaged in organizing festivals, conventions and lectures for science fiction and fantasy fandom. Since 2012 she has been a jury member for the Jerzy Zulawski Literary Award for the best novel in Polish speculative fiction.  ORCID: 0000-0002-3045-114X
