This book provides a detailed understanding of the complex associations among nutrition, cellular homeostasis, and autophagy through the incorporation of recent scientific advancements as well as practical data focusing on strategies to improve brain health and prolong lifespan. The chapters address in depth the emerging field of nutraceuticals, discussing natural substances that can be incorporated into the diet and have beneficial effects on brain health and promote longevity.
The book begins with a comprehensive description of various biological pathways and mechanisms associated with aging and brain health. This highlights the importance of autophagy in maintaining cellular homeostasis and clearing the accumulation of toxic aggregates from cells. The book then goes on to describe how this process of autophagy can be regulated through the use of nutraceuticals and the adoption of a healthy lifestyle, which can potentially contribute to the alleviation of various neurodegenerative disorders and cognitive impairment.
The book presents a detailed review of the multiple nutraceuticals currently available, along with their effects on brain aging. These nutraceuticals include polyphenols, omega-3 fatty acids, caloric restriction mimetics, and other phytochemicals.
This book thus establishes a link between the incorporation of novel and emerging therapeutic techniques in the field of neuroscience and their applications in everyday life. Researchers, neuroscientists, nutritionists, and healthcare professionals with a focus on brain health, aging, and neurodegenerative diseases will benefit from the book’s in-depth scientific insights, research-backed analysis, and exploration of emerging therapeutic techniques for brain health and longevity.

Dr. Abhishek Kumar Singh is an Associate Professor at Manipal Centre for Biotherapeutics Research, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, Karnataka, India. He has more than fifteen years of research experience in the neurobiology of aging. His major research interest is to investigate the interplay between autophagy and pro-survival pathways during the aging of the brain and aging-induced neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Alzheimer's disease. He has been involved in developing caloric restriction mimetics-based strategies to slow down brain aging and improve health span and lifespan. Dr. Singh has utilized a range of model systems, from cell lines to stem cells to rodents, to understand the mechanisms of the aging process in the brain and develop anti-aging interventions. Dr. Singh has published over 60 research articles in reputed international journals. Dr. Singh has been serving as academic editor of PLOS One and editor of Expert Opinion on Drug Metabolism & Toxicology. He also served as a guest editor and referee for more than 20 international journals with a high impact factor. He is a member of various international scientific societies, including the Indian Academy of Neuroscience and the Society of Toxicology India.
Dr. Sachchida Nand Rai is a Senior Research Associate (ICMR-RA) at the Centre of Experimental Medicine & Surgery, Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi. He has won several awards, like the Bentham Outstanding Reviewer Award and Dr. D. S. Kothari Postdoctoral Fellowship (2020-2023). His research expertise covers neurodegenerative disease modeling, epigenetics, autophagy, biochemical and molecular techniques, and bioinformatics. He is serving as Academic Editor for BMC Research Notes (Springer Nature) and PLOS ONE and as Associate Editor for 3 Biotech (Springer Nature) and Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity (Wiley). Additional roles include Editorial Board Member for Molecular Neurobiology, Journal of Inflammation Research, Degenerative Neurological and Neuromuscular Disease, and Emerging Editorial Board Member for Brain Science Advances. He is also a Section Editor for the European Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (Biochemistry Section) and a board member for the International Journal of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Discover Applied Sciences, and Discover Plants.
