Metabolic syndrome is a significant global health challenge, with a five-fld increase in the risk of developing type-2 diabetes and a two-fold heightened risk of cardiovascular diseases. Despite advancements in understanding the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome, current therapeutic interventions have not achieved optimal efficacy. The integration of nanotechnology into biomedicine is seen as a promising avenue to address this issue.
Nanoparticles can be engineered to carry anti-inflammatory agents, providing targeted relief at inflammation sites, reducing inflammation and minimizing systemic side effects. Nanotechnology also enhances drug delivery systems by navigating biological barriers and reaching specific sites with precision. This not only improves the bioavailability of therapeutic agents but also minimizes off-target effects, enhancing overall treatment effectiveness.
Nanotechnology also plays a pivotal role in early disease detection and diagnosis through innovative nano-imaging techniques. These techniques enable the visualization of molecular and cellular events at unprecedented resolutions, facilitating the identification of metabolic syndrome markers and associated disorders at their incipient stages. As research progresses, the integration of nanotechnology has the potential to redefine metabolic syndrome management, offering hope for improved patient outcomes and a healthier global population.

Dr Vivek Kumar Chaturvedi is a Young-Scientist Fellow (Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare) at Institute of Medical Sciences, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India. Before joining the laboratory as a Young Scientist Fellow, He worked as a Postdoctoralresearch associate at the Department of Gastroenterology, IMSBHU, Varanasi. He earned his PhD degree in Biotechnology from University of Allahabad, India. Dr Chaturvedi’s research interests include the synthesis and functionalization of nano-biomaterials as well as their fabrication for the development of various biosensors that may be useful for the early detection and treatment of cancer and gastrointestinal diseases. Besides these, he has published many original articles in peer-reviewed high-impact journals along with many internationally edited and authored books.
Dr. Anurag Kumar Singh is a Research Associate at the Department of Pharmaceutical Engineering and Technology, IIT (BHU), Varanasi, India. With over 2.5 years of postdoctoral research experience, he has previously worked at Alabama State University, USA, and Bar-Ilan University, Israel. He holds a doctoral degree from Banaras Hindu University and an M. Pharm from the Central University of Rajasthan. Dr. Singh's research focuses on developing novel nanoparticulate systems for chronic pain, neurodegenerative disorders, and brain-targeted drug delivery, including dendrimers, nanoporous materials, and polymeric nanoparticles. His interests span biomedical and healthcare applications, aiming to bridge engineering, pharmaceutical, and medical research. He has published numerous research papers, reviews, and journal editorials, and has edited/authored over six books and more than 10 book chapters with internationally reputed publishers.
Dr. Jay Singh has been serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at BHU, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, since 2017. He obtained his Ph.D. in Materials Science from MNNIT Allahabad, India, in 2010, and furthered his academic journey with prestigious postdoctoral fellowships at NPL, New Delhi, CBNU, South Korea, and DTU, Delhi. Dr. Singh has been honored with esteemed fellowships including CSIR (RA), DST-Young Scientist Fellowship, and DST-INSPIRE Faculty Award. His scholarly contributions include over 160 international research papers, cited more than 5400 times, and he holds an h-index of 42. Dr. Singh has authored or edited more than 18 books and over 60 book chapters for renowned publishers such as ACS, RSC, Elsevier, Springer Nature, IOP, Wiley, and CRC. Currently, his research focuses on sustainable metal oxide-based biosensors for applications in food packaging, drug delivery, tissue engineering, and the development of sensors for various bioanalytes crucial in healthcare, environmental, and agricultural sectors.
Dr Dawesh Prakash Yadav is presently working as Associate Professor of Gastroenterology at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi (India). He did his MBBS and MD (General Medicine) from Institute of Medical Sciences (IMS), BHU Varanasi, India. He is the Member of Indian National Association for the Study of the liver (INASL), the Indian Society of Gastroenterology and received many other prestigious awards. Dr Yadav worked as a senior resident in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi from 2013 to 2017. He joined as an Assistant Professor in IMS, BHU in 2017. In 2019 he was promoted to associate professor in the Department of Gastroenterology; IMS-BHU. Dr Yadav has been carrying out his research on various aspects of inflammatory bowel disease, liver cirrhosis and nanobiotechnology over the last decade. He has published more than 45 research papers and book chapters in peer-reviewed high-impact journals along with many international book chapters. He has currently edited three editorial books in Bentham Sciences. He has been serving as an editorial board member of many reputed journals.
