À trente-trois ans, Patrick Roberts est chef de groupe de recherche à l'Institut Max Planck pour la science de l'histoire humaine. Il y a créé et dirige le laboratoire d'isotopes stables du département d'archéologie. Couronné par plusieurs prix, membre de l'Académie européenne des sciences, il a publié son premier livre en 2019 aux Oxford University Press, Trop Forests in Prehistory,. Au-delà des interactions entre l'homme et la forêt tropicale, il s'intéresse à la relation entre le changement climatique et le changement culturel de notre espèce.
