Né en Angleterre, Ian Beck a étudié le design, le graphisme et l’illustration à l’école d’art de Brighton. Il a conçu de nombreuses pochettes de disque pour des artistes comme Elton John, avant d’illustrer des livres pour enfants. En 2012, il a créé une exposition publique de dessins sur les stars du music-hall et du début du cinéma destinée à améliorer la vie dans un hôpital psychiatrique. Son livre Tom Cœurvaillant a été traduit en plus de vingt langues.
