Kristin Hoganson is the Stanley S. Stroup Professor of United States History at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. She is the author of several previous books, including Fighting for American Manhood: How Gender Politics Provoked the Spanish-American and Philippine-American Wars (2000); Consumers' Imperium: The Global Production of American Domesticity 1865-1920 (2007); The Heartland: An American History (2019); and co-editor (with Jay Sexton) of Crossing Empires: Taking US History into Transimperial Terrain (2020).
